The reason being...........

Automatic paypal subscription has been added for members wishing to join the fully paid (therefore full access to the site) member part of the site, details here.
This will upon registering to full membership take you to your paypal account for a one time payment to become a 'full member',it stores the date/time and approching the expiry date next year will remind you that your membership is due,no payment will be taken automatically unless you submit a payment again.
If you do not wish to continue full membership this can simply be ignored and your status will be automatically dropped back down to 'registered', you can of coarse re-join 'full members' by clicking the link at anytime.

I have one in the centre of the screen towards the top It tell me I'm a full member and tells me when it expires. Or does that mean something else??

Think it's pretty cool idea - so I can see when my membership is going to expire.

Yep and its all automated for myself and Jabber so should be fairly handy
